Talk 1: GHOSTS IN THE DYAD: Holding the Infant in Mind Through the Therapist’s Countertransference
Amanda Gropp, LCSW
Jeanine Vivona, PhD
All Talks via Zoom
From earliest interactions to the waning of the Oedipus Complex, to the process of internalization, to the transmutation of ghosts into ancestors, Loewald offers a wellspring of insight on development across the lifespan. Though Loewald published little on his technique and practice, this two-part series will bring clinical implications of Loewald’s work to life, illuminating the myriad ways his thinking bears upon work with patients. Fall programs will focus on infancy through adolescence, and Spring programs will consider emerging, middle, and late adulthood. Our clinical discussions will be grounded in Loewald’s attunement to the temporality of psychic life and the dramas of one generation flowing into the next.
